Question 1

What is a pink slip (eSafety check)?

Accepted Answer

A pink slip — officially called an eSafety check — is a vehicle safety inspection required before you can renew your registration in NSW. It checks that your vehicle meets minimum safety standards covering brakes, tyres, lights, steering, suspension, and more. Once passed, the result is submitted electronically to Service NSW.

Question 2

Does my car need a pink slip every year?

Accepted Answer

Vehicles more than five years old require an eSafety check (pink slip) each year before registration renewal. Vehicles under five years old are generally exempt from the annual inspection requirement, though you should confirm with Service NSW as rules can vary.

Question 3

What vehicles can you inspect?

Accepted Answer

We inspect cars, station wagons, 4WDs, SUVs, motorbikes, light trucks, vans, caravans, and trailers — all up to 4.5 tonne GVM. If you're unsure whether your vehicle qualifies, give Norrie a call on 0449 800 531.

Question 4

What happens during the inspection?

Accepted Answer

Norrie will come to your home, workplace, or any convenient location and carry out a thorough safety check of your vehicle. The inspection typically takes 20–30 minutes and covers brakes, tyres, lights, steering, suspension, seatbelts, windscreen, and all other items required by the NSW eSafety check standard. If your vehicle passes, the result is lodged electronically with Service NSW on the spot.

Question 5

What if my vehicle fails?

Accepted Answer

If your vehicle doesn't pass, Norrie will explain exactly what needs to be fixed and provide a written list of the defects. Once the repairs are done, you can book a re-inspection. A reduced re-inspection fee applies when the same items are re-checked within 14 days.

Question 6

Do I need to be present during the inspection?

Accepted Answer

Yes, someone needs to be present to provide access to the vehicle and sign the inspection paperwork. You don't need to stay with the vehicle the whole time — just be available at the start and end of the appointment.

Question 7

How much does a pink slip inspection cost?

Accepted Answer

Pricing depends on vehicle type: Cars and station wagons are $99, 4WDs and SUVs are $110, motorbikes are $80, caravans and trailers are $76–$90, and light trucks and vans are $110. All prices include the call-out fee and GST. A travel surcharge may apply for locations outside the standard service area.

Question 8

When do I pay?

Accepted Answer

Payment is taken on the day after the inspection is completed — no upfront payment is required to book. We accept cash, card, and bank transfer.

Question 9

Where do you service?

Accepted Answer

We cover the Macarthur region (Campbelltown, Camden, Narellan, Picton, Wollondilly), the Southern Highlands (Bowral, Mittagong, Moss Vale, Berrima, Robertson, Bundanoon), and the Goulburn area (Goulburn, Marulan, Tallong, Collector, Gunning, Breadalbane). Not sure if we cover your suburb? Call or SMS 0449 800 531 and we'll let you know.

Question 10

How do I book an inspection?

Accepted Answer

The easiest way is to use our online booking form — just select your vehicle type, choose a date and time, and enter your location. You can also call Norrie directly on 0449 800 531 or send an SMS and he'll get back to you promptly.

Question 11

How much notice do I need to give?

Accepted Answer

We can often accommodate bookings with just a day or two's notice, and sometimes same-day if the schedule allows. For the best availability, booking 3–5 days ahead is recommended — especially towards the end of the month when demand is highest.

Question 12

Can I book for a caravan or trailer at a storage facility?

Accepted Answer

Absolutely. We can come to caravan parks, storage facilities, or any other location where your vehicle is kept. Just include the address when you book and Norrie will confirm the appointment.

Question 13

Can you inspect modified or lifted 4WDs?

Accepted Answer

We can inspect modified and raised 4WDs, however all modifications must comply with NSW Automotive Industry Structural (AIS) rules and relevant Australian Design Rules (ADRs). If your vehicle has lift kits, suspension modifications, tyre size changes, or other alterations that do not meet AIS compliance requirements, we are unable to issue a pass. If you're unsure whether your modifications are compliant, we recommend checking with a licensed vehicle modifier or contacting Transport for NSW before booking.

Question 14

Are there any requirements for inspecting caravans and trailers?

Accepted Answer

Yes — caravans and trailers must be positioned on a hard, level surface (such as a driveway, sealed road, or concrete pad) with sufficient clear space around the entire vehicle for Norrie to carry out a safe and thorough inspection. Vehicles parked on grass, gravel, or in tight spaces where access is restricted may not be able to be inspected on the day. Please ensure the area is clear before your appointment.

Question 15

My vehicle has a warning light on the dashboard — will it pass?

Accepted Answer

No — any illuminated malfunction or warning light that relates to a safety-relevant system will result in a fail. Under NSW eSafety check rules, vehicles must not have active fault codes or warning lights for systems such as ABS, airbags, engine management, traction control, or electronic stability control. If your vehicle has a warning light showing, we recommend having it diagnosed and repaired before booking your inspection to avoid an unnecessary call-out fee.
